Saint Monica's Players (SMP) is a North London based amateur dramatics group which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008. The not-for-profit group produces a pantomime every January at the Intimate Theatre in Palmers Green and a musical production in June at the Millfield Theatre in Edmonton. SMP have become well known for tackling different or challenging summer productions like Much Ado Ron Ron and Westside Story. The group is lucky enough to boast a young membership, with nearly 50 per cent males, both unusual in amateur theatre. Past SMP members who have now enjoyed another stage include the BBC reporter Brian Hanrahan, who shot to fame with his coverage of the Falklands wars, and Jo Collins OBE, co-founder of Chicken Shed. A more recent past member, Charlie Finn, appeared alongside Dannii Minogue on the 2007 rendition of X Factor. Another recent member, 22 year-old Julian Perretta, has had top 10 pop hits around Europe, since leaving SMP. Photos from our many social events, including our annual holiday, golf day and nights out to pubs and bars in the North London area can be found on the SMP Facebook page. |
